A paper star garland looks great on a mantel, a shelf or a Christmas tree, and it costs very little. This version uses folded stars that stand out from the string.
What you need
- Cardstock or heavy craft paper in several colors See options
- Twine or thin string See options
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks See options
- Scissors, pencil and ruler
How to make it
- Draw a five-pointed star about 10 cm (4 in) wide on a piece of card and cut it out. This is your template.
- Trace the template and cut out 24 stars. Use two or three colors for a nicer look.
- Fold each star in half down the middle, through the top point, and open it again so there is a crease.
- Cut a piece of twine about 2 m (6 ft) long and lay it on a table.
- Put a little glue on one half of a star, press the twine on it, then glue one half of a second star on top. The two stars now form a 3D star with the twine in between.
- Repeat with the remaining stars, leaving about 8 cm (3 in) of twine between each star.
- Let the glue dry for a few minutes, then hang the garland and spread the stars out.
Tips
Heavier paper (around 200 g) holds its shape better than normal printer paper.
For a rustic look, use brown kraft paper and white twine.
